The season is upon us again, so without further ado, here is our pick of events for women in March 2017. Please note that this list is not extensive: details of women’s races currently listed on the British Cycling website for March and April can be found here.

4 & 5 March 2017

Bianchi Dama’s Women’s Race Day – this is the brainchild of the South West women’s racing team and it includes separate racing for novices/4th category riders and more experienced riders. – £15 entry – Westpoint Circuit, Exeter. Organised by Jess Duffy.

Wakefield Cycle Circuit Inaugural Races – I don’t usually post closed circuit events but I gave the organiser (Chris Lawrence of Barnsley RC) a bit of a hard time over his entry costs and, to his credit, he reduced it by 25% to £15. Prize fund of £150 (subject to entries) – Wakefield, West Yorkshire – E1234 (band 4).

Cull Cup – E123 (although 4th cats should also be able to enter) – £20 – this is on the Pimbo Industrial Estate in Skelmersdale, Merseyside – 12pm – 38 miles – open to first category riders. Just off the motorway network too.

11 & 12 March 2017

University of Birmingham One Day Stage Race – 10 mile TT followed by a criterium at Stourport in the afternoon – £16 – Worcester. TT bikes can be used in the time trial in the morning.

SERRL – Benenden/Sandhurst – W3/W4 only – 32 miles – 10am – Rolvenden, Kent – £20. Nailed on entry level road race for women. You don’t need to be affiliated to any league, just enter. This type of event is like gold dust, get involved, ladies!!

Modbury Spring Road Race – E1234 – £25 – Modbury, Devon – a staple of the SW calendar.

18 & 19 March 2017

Gifford Road Race – E1234 – 40 miles – £18 – Gifford, Edinburgh, Scotland

Ipswich BC Spring Scramble – 234 – 44 miles – 1:30pm – £19. Always a popular event.

West Pennine Hilly TT when the event is being co-organised by Joanna Rowsell-Shand, we have to include it. Equal prize money has been mentioned.

25 & 26 March 2017

Bristol South Women’s RR – 234 – 50 miles – 11am – £25 – 5 & a half laps of the Mendips circuit, near Bath.

SERRL – Biddenden Road Race – 2/3 – 40 miles – £20 – 1.30pm – Bethersden, Kent. No league affiliation necessary.
