May is swiftly approaching, so without further ado, here are the pick of the road events currently on the British Cycling system:

Sunday 8 May 2016

Bourne Wheelers Junior Women’s Road Race – the first ever standalone junior women’s race currently has 52 entries – closing date is 24 April for this 45 mile race – starting at 1pm – Grantham, Lincolnshire

Team Cystic Fibrosis Women’s Road Race – W2/W3/W4 – entry fee £20 – 10am – 37 miles – Holmfirth, West Yorkshire – this race is on a great circuit (course details on the link) and promises to be a great event.

SW Bike Academy Road Races – WE/W1/W2/W3/W4 – entry fee £26 – 2pm – 53 miles – Somerton, Somerset – this event is part of the Kalas SW Women’s Road Series and is described as the perfect warm up for the Lincoln GP by the organiser.  A later start time means that riders will be able to travel to the event from further afield.

Saturday 14 May 2016

Women’s Road Race Series – Munlochy, Inverness – part of the Scottish Women’s Road Race Series, this event near Inverness features a QOM competition (laps 2 and 4) – WE/1/2/3/4 – 47 miles – Munlochy, Inverness – entry fee just £12!

Cotswold Veldrijden Road Race – W2/W3/W4 – 1:15pm – £25 entry fee – 40 miles – Malmesbury, Wiltshire – this is the first time this race has featured a women’s event – the course is described as the “rolling Charlton Brinkworth circuit”.  Looks like a great event

Team MK Central League Road Race – WE/1/2/3/4 – 1:00pm – 40 miles – £20 entry fee – Cranfield, Bedfordshire – this is on the Astwood circuit. for those of you who know where that is!

The Green Jersey North West Junior Women’s Tour – another first for the junior women this season – a three day, four stage event for junior women, based in Morecambe and Lancaster, over the Whit Bank Holiday weekend. At £50 for an event that includes a time trial, a closed roads road race and two circuit races, this is one event that is not only a bargain, but will also have some great racing!

Performance Cycles – South Cerney Road Race – W2/W3/W4 – 48 miles – 12pm – entry fee £25 – this event is part of the village’s festival, which will likely mean big crowds for this Cotswold event, near Cirencester, Gloucestershire.

Stan’s Cycles Shrewsbury Grand Prix – always a good event – this 45 minute race around Shrewsbury town centre is always popular – entry fee £25 – great prize fund and great atmosphere.
