As May has now arrived, it’s time to start looking at the calendar for events to enter in June. The full list of women’s races in June 2017 currently listed on the British Cycling website can be found by clicking here but our pick of events is as follows:
3 & 4 June 2017
Tour de Gladhouse – part of the Scottish Women’s Series – E1234 – Edinburgh – 55 miles – £20 – 11am
Croston Velo RR – the first event in our #partyontheroad month, which is aimed at W3/W4 category riders. This is the first road race of its kind in the North West, and we are grateful to Dan Styler and Croston Velo for taking the leap of faith with us. – W3/W4 – Bickerstaffe, Lancashire – 46 miles – £20 – 11:30am
***Please note that this weekend sees the National Women’s Road Series heading to the Cicle Classic so if you’re worried about not being able to keep up, all of the more experienced, team riders are likely to be at the Cicle Classic instead, so the Croston Velo event is a good place to start.
10 & 11 June 2017
Holme Valley Wheelers Stage Race – E1234 – Penistone, South Yorkshire – £69 – starts on the evening of Friday 9 June with a road race, followed on the Saturday with a 10 mile TT, followed by a 55 mile RR in the afternoon. If you want a challenging event, this is for you. Always a great event and comes highly recommended.
North West Youth League and 3/4 races – another race which is being held as part of the #partyontheroad month – W3/W4 – Palatine Leisure Centre, Blackpool – £15 – 40 minutes – 2pm – if you or your mates fancy a go at racing, this is the event for you!
17 & 18 June 2017
Birkenhead Park Races – W2/W3/W4 – Birkenhead – £12 – 25 miles – 11am – my favourite race of the year!
Harrogate Nova Road Race – W2/W3/W4 – Harrogate – £25 – 35 miles – 10:05am – on the famous Penny Pot circuit, if you like hills and don’t want to race with the more experienced riders (who will be at the Curlew Cup round of the National Series up the road), then this is for you.
SERRL – Benenden/Cranbrook – W3/W4 – Rolvenden, Kent – £20 – 33 miles – 1:30pm. The lovely people at South East Road Race League have put on another W3/W4 event – if you like this level of racing, please support it so there can be more next year!
Crit Under the Castle – E1234 – Stirling, Scotland – £19 – 45 minutes – 7:20pm
21 June 2017
Special mention for the Ilkley Town Centre Races – E1234 – Ilkley, West Yorkshire – always a great night.
24 & 25 June 2017
VC Norwich Road Races – W2/W3/W4 – Great Cressingham, Norfolk – £20 – 53 miles – 2pm – always a popular race and well-supported so book early to avoid disappointment!
Racing Chance Foundation Pimbo Road Races – W3/W4 – Skelmersdale, Lancashire – £19 – 32 miles – 12pm – the final #partyontheroad event for 2017, this event has been restricted to 3rd and 4th category riders to encourage them to race whilst the “hitters” are at the National Championships on the Isle of Man. Although it’s on the open road, the circuit is one-way and wide, making it a perfect event for women looking to tare their first steps into road racing.
SERRL – Ninfield – W2/W3/W4 – Rolvenden, Kent – £20 – 42 miles – 10am
Enjoy your riding! Until next time…
